The lowest-effort way to find which Menards stores still have an item is to ask each store's count by API rather than drive to them. Scavio's Menards API lists the stores near a ZIP with /api/v1/menards/stores, then POST /api/v1/menards/search at each store number returns that store's stock_quantity, its price and a price_type that reads clearance where the store has marked the item down. A search costs 2 credits, about $0.004 on the Growth plan billed yearly, so checking 24 stores is 48 credits and needs no Menards account.
The question was asked on r/menards: a shopper chasing a clearanced specialty screw had visited several stores, ended up with a screw in a car tire for the trouble, and asked for the "lowest effort way to get a list of stores that have this in stock". The thread is the Reddit post Google's AI Overview cites for "menards inventory check by store". A later thread asked the price side of the same problem: other states had cheaper sale prices than the poster's own Menards. Both come down to reading every nearby store, which menards.com only lets you do one selected store at a time.
Step 1: List the stores near you
curl -s https://api.scavio.dev/api/v1/menards/stores \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SCAVIO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"zip": "55401"}'ZIP 55401 in Minneapolis returned 24 stores nearest first, from St Paul Midway (3181) at 4.4 miles and Golden Valley (3282) at 4.9 miles outward, each with its store_id, address, coordinates and services. 1 credit.
Step 2: Search the item at each store
Use the model number or the product name as the query. A SKU did not work: searching 2416849 at Golden Valley returned no results, while the model number found the item first:
curl -s https://api.scavio.dev/api/v1/menards/search \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SCAVIO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"query": "GXL18V-240B22", "store_id": "3282"}'The matching row, trimmed to the price and stock fields:
{
"position": 1,
"item_id": "1642874277741670",
"sku": "2416849",
"price": 209.99,
"everyday_price": 249,
"sale_price": 209.99,
"on_sale": true,
"price_type": "clearance",
"rebates": [{ "text": "11% REBATE*", "amount": 23.1 }],
"final_price": 186.89,
"in_stock": true,
"stock_quantity": 1,
"stock_message": "In-Stock at"
}That is a Bosch 18-Volt hammer drill and impact driver combo kit, on clearance at Golden Valley with one left. Loop the same call over the store numbers from step 1 and keep the rows with stock_quantity above 0.
What seven stores showed
We had already searched "cordless drill" at seven stores in five states between 18:12 and 18:16 UTC on November 2, 2026, 14 credits in all, and the same kit was in every result list:
| Store | Price | Price type | On hand |
|---|---|---|---|
| Golden Valley, MN (3282) | $209.99 | clearance | 1 |
| St Paul Midway, MN (3181) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
| Maplewood, MN (3385) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
| Chicago Clybourn, IL (3092) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
| West Milwaukee, WI (3226) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
| Des Moines, IA (3046) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
| West Fargo, ND (3036) | $209.99 | sale | 0 |
One store out of seven had it, and only that store called it clearance. Across the whole drill search, the stock count differed between stores for 33 of the 40 products, and 7 were on the shelf at some stores and at none in others.
Step 3: Confirm at the store before you drive
curl -s https://api.scavio.dev/api/v1/menards/product \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SCAVIO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"item_id": "1642874277741670", "store_id": "3282"}'The product call took 12.5 s and 2 credits. Its store block, as captured:
{
"store_id": "3282",
"selected": true,
"fulfillment": "Pick Up At Store",
"in_stock": true,
"stock_quantity": 1,
"stock_message": "Clearance",
"locations": [],
"service_desk_department": null,
"notes": ["While Supplies Last!"]
}The same response carried "you_save_text": "You Save $62.11 After Clearance Price & Mail-In Rebate*" and the rebate's dates, November 2 to 8, 2026. For regular stock the product call also names the aisle, such as "Item Located in Aisle 207 Section C"; this clearance unit had no aisle listed.
What the API cannot do
- Items Menards has taken off its site. The Reddit poster's screw no longer appeared on menards.com even though stores still had it. The API reads menards.com, so an item the site no longer lists will not come back from any store.
- One store per call. There is no single call for every store's count, so 24 stores are 24 searches. At 2 credits each that is 48 credits, about $0.10 at the Growth-yearly rate.
- A count, not a hold. The number is what Menards shows for the store when you call; a unit marked "While Supplies Last!" can go before you arrive, so call the store for a single unit.
The full comparison of Menards data options is in the best Menards product data APIs, and every call is walked through in how to get Menards prices and rebates.
Try the Menards API free, 50 credits, no card, or run a search at your own store in the playground.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check if another Menards has an item in stock?
On menards.com you change your selected store and read the stock line again, one store at a time. With Scavio's Menards API you pass each store number to search or product and read stock_quantity, the store's unit count. Store numbers for the stores near you come from its stores endpoint with a ZIP code.
Is Menards clearance the same at every store?
No. On November 2, 2026 a Bosch 18-Volt hammer drill and impact driver combo kit was marked clearance with 1 unit at the Golden Valley, Minnesota store, while six other stores listed it at the same $209.99 as a sale item with none on hand. Clearance is decided store by store.
Can I search Menards by SKU?
Not reliably. Searching the SKU 2416849 returned no results at the store we tried, while the model number GXL18V-240B22 found the item first. Use the model number or product name as the query, or the item id from the menards.com URL with the product endpoint.
Will Menards price match another Menards?
That is a store policy question for Menards. What an API can show is whether the prices actually differ: on November 2, 2026 a 2x6x8 cost $6.38 at three Twin Cities stores and $6.95 in Des Moines, while 40 cordless drills cost the same at all seven stores we searched.
