A free keyword rank checker for Google

Searching your own keyword in your browser does not tell you where you rank. Google tailors those results to you. This checker runs a clean Google search for the country and device you choose, reads the organic results, and tells you the exact position of your domain, the page it is on and which URL is ranking.

The same keyword ranks differently from one market to the next. When we checked project management software on October 20, 2026, the US and UK results pages had different sites at number one, and the UK page included UK-only directories such as capterra.co.uk in its top five. Desktop and mobile disagreed too: the top US result on desktop was second on mobile. If you sell in more than one country, check each one.

Each check also tells you whether Google showed an AI Overview or a local pack for the keyword, the two blocks most likely to push organic results down the page. Agencies and in-house SEO teams can run the same search through the Google Search API to check every client keyword every day, with the full results page as JSON.

How to check your Google ranking

  1. 1

    Enter the keyword

Type the search a customer would make, exactly as they would type it, e.g. project management software.

  2. 2

    Enter your domain

Paste your domain or any URL on your site. The checker reduces it to the domain and counts every page on it, including subdomains like blog.yourdomain.com.

  3. 3

    Pick a country and device

Choose the Google country to check and desktop or mobile. Rankings differ between countries and between devices, so check the market your customers search from.

  4. 4

    Read your position

The checker scans up to three pages of Google and stops when it finds you. You get your organic position, the page, the URL that ranks, the top 10 results, and whether an AI Overview or local pack sits on the page.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Google rank checker work?+

It runs a live Google search for your keyword in the country and on the device you pick, reads the organic results page by page, and stops at the first result on your domain. You see the position, the page it is on, and the exact URL that ranks.

Is it free?+

Yes. You get 5 free rank checks a day, no account. For more, get an API key: 50 free credits on signup, no card required. Each results page costs 1 credit, so a check costs 1 to 3 credits.

How deep does it check?+

Up to three pages of Google, about the top 30 organic results. It stops as soon as it finds your domain, so a page-one ranking uses one search. Through the API you can page deeper by raising start in steps of 10.

Are the results for a specific city or ZIP code?+

No. Results are country-level: the search runs for the Google country you pick, in that country's main language. Rankings for a specific city or neighborhood can differ from what this checker shows.

Why is my rank different from what I see in my browser?+

Your own browser results are shaped by your location, your search history and whether you are signed in to Google. The checker runs a clean search with none of that, which is closer to what a new visitor in that country sees.

Does it count subdomains and every page on my site?+

Yes. Any URL on your domain or one of its subdomains counts, and the first one found is your rank. If more of your pages appear in the scanned results, their positions are listed too.

Why check desktop and mobile separately?+

Google builds a different results page for each device. In our check on October 20, 2026, the top result for project management software in the US was different on desktop and on mobile, so a ranking on one device does not guarantee the same spot on the other.

What do the AI Overview and local pack flags mean?+

They tell you what else is on the page. An AI Overview sits above the organic results and can push even a top-three ranking down the screen. A local pack is the map block with nearby businesses, which matters for keywords with local intent.

Can I track my rankings every day?+

This page is a one-off check. To track rankings, get an API key and run the same search daily through the API from a cron job, n8n, Make or Zapier, then store the position in a sheet or database. The full JSON for every results page is available via the API.

Can I use this in my own code?+

Yes. POST /api/v2/google with { "query": "your keyword", "gl": "us", "hl": "en", "device": "desktop", "start": 0 } returns organic_results with position, title and link. Each call is 1 credit and returns one page; set start to 10 or 20 for pages two and three.
