A free press coverage tracker
Press coverage is scattered across hundreds of outlets, and the story that matters is rarely the one on the front page. Google News already gathers it in one place. This tool searches it for your brand and turns the results into a coverage snapshot: how many articles, how many publishers, which outlets wrote the most, and the newest headlines with their authors and links.
PR teams use it to check coverage after an announcement, agencies use it to report on clients and watch competitors, and founders use it to see whether anyone picked up a launch. Pick a time range to see only the past hour, day, week or month, and a country to read that edition of Google News.
The same search is one call to the Google News API. Run it every day from a cron job or an automation tool and you have brand mention monitoring that writes straight into your own sheet, Slack channel or report, at 1 credit per search.
How to monitor Google News for brand mentions
- 1
Type the name to track
Enter your brand, your company, a competitor, a founder or a product. Wrap it in quotes, like "Acme Robotics", to match the exact phrase.
- 2
Pick a time range and country
Choose the past hour, 24 hours, week or month, or any time, and the country edition of Google News you want to read.
- 3
Read the coverage
Articles come back newest first with headline, publisher, author, publish time and a link, above a count of articles, distinct publishers and the publishers covering you most.
Frequently asked questions
What does the Google News monitor show?+
The newest Google News articles that match your brand or keyword: the headline, the publisher, the author when Google lists one, how long ago it was published, a thumbnail and a link to the story. Above the list you get the total number of articles, how many distinct publishers covered it, and the top publishers by article count.
Can I limit it to recent coverage?+
Yes. Pick the past hour, past 24 hours, past week or past month, or leave it on any time. The results are always sorted newest first, so the top of the list is the latest coverage.
Which countries does it cover?+
You can read the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and Japan editions of Google News. Through the API you set any country with gl and any language with hl.
Is it free?+
Yes. You get 5 free news checks a day with no account. A search that finds nothing does not use a check. Sign up free and you get 50 free credits on signup, no card required, to keep searching on your own account.
Can it send me alerts when my brand is in the news?+
This page is a one-off check and does not send alerts. To track coverage every day, sign up free and run the same search through the API on a schedule from n8n, Make, Zapier or a cron job, then post new articles to Slack, email or a spreadsheet.
How many articles does one search return?+
Up to 100 articles per search. The free tool shows the newest 20 and counts all of them in the summary. The API returns all of them as JSON, which you can write to a CSV file or a sheet.
Why do some results not mention my brand?+
Google News matches words, so a brand that is also a common word, like Notion or Apple, pulls in unrelated stories. Put the name in quotes, add a second word such as the product or the city, or search the full company name.
Can I track a competitor's press coverage?+
Yes. Type any company, person or product. PR teams and agencies use it to see which outlets cover a competitor, how often, and which journalists write about them.
Can I export the articles?+
There is no one-click export. Through the API you get every article as JSON with title, link, source name, authors and an ISO publish date, ready for a sheet, a database or a coverage report.
Can I use this in my own code?+
Yes. POST /api/v2/google/news with { "query": "Acme Robotics when:1d", "gl": "us", "hl": "en" } returns up to 100 articles in news_results. Each call costs 1 credit. Use when:1h, when:1d, when:7d or when:30d in the query for a time range.

Monitor coverage with the Google News API
This tool is one endpoint on the Scavio API. Search any brand or topic by country and language, get every article as JSON with publisher, authors and ISO dates, and run it on a schedule from your own pipelines and agents.
