Yes, you can see brand mentions in ChatGPT without checking by hand. Send the questions your buyers ask to Scavio's ChatGPT API, POST /api/v1/chatgpt/prompt, on a schedule. Each call returns the answer ChatGPT gives, every page it cited and the searches it ran, so you can count how often your brand is named, how often your site is linked, and who is named instead. A prompt costs 2 credits, about $0.004 on the Growth plan billed yearly.
The question comes from a PR and comms lead at a small manufacturer, posting on r/digital_marketing. Their executives want to know whether the brand shows up when people ask ChatGPT about the product category, and want it in quarterly PR impact reports. Checking by hand was, in their words, "a nightmare": slow, unreliable, and invisible to Google Analytics when ChatGPT mentions the brand without a link. There is no OpenAI dashboard for it. The thread had 42 comments when we read it, and it ranks third on Google for "how to track brand mentions in chatgpt".
Why manual checks feel unreliable: they are
The answer to the same prompt changes from run to run. On October 27, 2026 we ran 15 CRM buying prompts through Scavio's ChatGPT endpoint twice each. 8 of the 15 prompts named a different set of brands the second time, and only 71 of the 88 brand mentions survived from one run to the next (81%). Google AI Mode was less stable still, keeping 53 of 93 (57%). One check in the ChatGPT app, signed in to your own account, is one sample. A rate across several runs is a measurement.
Why analytics misses it
Analytics records clicks, not mentions. Two numbers from the same test show the gap:
- In this category ChatGPT cited the named brand's own site for 154 of 159 brand mentions, including hubspot.com in all 27 answers that named HubSpot. Your category may differ, which is why you count it. Its cited links carry
utm_source=chatgpt.com(296 of the 655 source URLs we collected), which is how a click reaches your reports. - Google AI Mode cited the named brand's site for only 21 of 146 mentions. It named HubSpot in 27 of 30 answers but cited hubspot.com in 4, so 23 of those mentions could not send a visit at all.
So count mentions in the answer text, count citations of your domain separately, and use analytics only for the clicks.
How to measure it in four steps
- Write 20 to 50 prompts your buyers would ask before they know your name: "best [product] supplier for [use case]", "[product] for [industry]", "alternatives to [competitor]". Keep the list fixed so quarters compare.
- Send each prompt to the API:
curl -s https://api.scavio.dev/api/v1/chatgpt/prompt \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $SCAVIO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"prompt": "Which CRM should a 10-person B2B sales team use?"}'The response holds answer.markdown (the full answer), sources (each cited page with URL, title, publisher and date where shown), search_queries (what ChatGPT searched before answering) and shopping (product cards on consumer prompts). An answer takes about 20 seconds; ours ranged from 12 to 59.
- Count: your brand and each competitor in the answer, matched on whole words; your domain in the sources; and the publishers cited most, which are the pages to earn a place on. In the CRM test TechRadar was cited in 14 of 30 ChatGPT answers.
- Repeat each prompt two or three times a month and report rates: named in X of Y answers, cited in X of Y, with the same figures for two or three competitors.
How to track brand mentions in ChatGPT answers has the matching and citation code, and the AI visibility checker checks one brand and prompt with no code.
What a quarterly report can show
- Mention rate per prompt and overall, against named competitors.
- Citation rate: the share of answers that link your site, and which page they link.
- The searches ChatGPT ran: in every CRM answer at least one search already named brands, and 118 of the 159 brand mentions were brands already in ChatGPT's search. If you never appear there, work on the review sites and comparisons that put brands on the shortlist.
- Other assistants: the Gemini endpoint takes the same prompt for 5 credits and returns the same shape, and Google AI Mode costs 1 credit.
40 prompts run three times a month is 120 ChatGPT prompts and 240 credits a month, about $1.44 a quarter at the Growth-yearly rate. Adding Gemini and AI Mode on the same runs brings it to 960 credits a month, inside the $30 Project plan's 7,000. The limits: the counting is yours to write, there is no Perplexity or Copilot endpoint, and in a narrow niche many answers may name no brand at all, which is itself worth reporting.

Frequently asked questions
Does OpenAI show how often ChatGPT mentions my brand?
No. OpenAI offers no analytics of brand mentions in ChatGPT answers, and its API returns completions from the model you configure rather than the answers ChatGPT gives its users. To measure mentions you run your buyers' prompts yourself, through the ChatGPT app or an API such as Scavio's, and count the results.
Why doesn't Google Analytics show my ChatGPT mentions?
Analytics only records clicks. A mention that nobody clicks leaves no trace, and an answer that names you without a link cannot send traffic at all. Clicks that do happen usually arrive with utm_source=chatgpt.com, which ChatGPT adds to its cited links, so count mentions in the answers and use analytics only for the clicks.
How often should I check ChatGPT for brand mentions?
Often enough to report a rate. Answers change between runs: in a 15-prompt CRM test on October 27, 2026, 8 prompts returned a different set of brands the second time. Running a fixed prompt list two or three times a month gives a stable monthly figure for a quarterly report.
What does it cost to track ChatGPT mentions with Scavio?
2 credits a ChatGPT prompt, about $0.004 on the Growth plan billed yearly. 40 prompts run three times a month is 240 credits a month; adding the same runs on Gemini and Google AI Mode brings it to 960. New accounts get 50 free credits with no card.
