The fastest way to build a local business lead list from Google Maps is an API that returns the listing as data. Scavio's Google Maps API takes a category and a city, such as "roofers in Phoenix, AZ", and returns 20 businesses a call with name, phone, website, address, rating and category; six calls cover the roughly 120 businesses Google lists for one search. On October 27, 2026, 505 of 515 Phoenix businesses across five categories came back with a phone. Each call costs 1 credit, so a full category in one city is about 6 credits.

The question was asked well on r/CRM (32 comments). The poster was helping a family member's local service business, had started by searching Google Maps and company websites by hand, and found it too slow once they wanted several areas and service categories. They wanted name, website, location, and where public, the owner's email and phone, "without spending a fortune". Most of that is one call. The owner's email is not, and it is worth being clear why.

What Google Maps has and what it does not

A Maps listing is the business's public profile: name, category, address, phone, website, hours, rating and reviews. That is what any Maps tool can return. The owner's name and email are not on it. Tools that advertise emails visit the website on the listing and look for an address there, so they find a contact inbox when one is published and a decision-maker's address rarely. For local service businesses, the listed phone is usually the more direct line, and it is the field that comes back most reliably.

Step 1: Pull one category in one area

Bash
curl -s https://api.scavio.dev/api/v2/google/maps/search \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $SCAVIO_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"query": "roofers in Phoenix, AZ", "ll": "@33.4484,-112.0740,12z"}'

The first result, as captured (thumbnail, hours and extensions trimmed):

JSON
{
  "position": 1,
  "title": "Arizona Roofers",
  "place_id": "ChIJGYXZUaJ1K4cRmPjgN8uQAKg",
  "rating": 5,
  "reviews": 826,
  "type": "Roofing contractor",
  "types": ["Roofing contractor", "Chimney services", "Contractor", "Gutter service", "Skylight contractor"],
  "address": "4836 E McDowell Rd C100, Phoenix, AZ 85008",
  "open_state": "Open 24 hours",
  "phone": "(480) 613-8932",
  "website": "https://arizonaroofers.com/"
}

Add "start": 20 and so on up to 100 for the next pages, and change ll (the map center) to move to another part of town. The step-by-step guide has a short Python loop that pages, removes repeats and writes a CSV.

Step 2: Check how complete the list is

We ran five categories through all six pages in Phoenix and de-duplicated the rows:

CategoryUnique businessesWith a phoneWith a website
Dentists999998
Roofers1009995
Hair salons1029992
Mexican restaurants10910498
Auto repair shops10510474

Phone and address come back on almost every business. Websites, and therefore any emails found on them, depend on the trade: 31 of 105 auto repair shops listed a phone and no website. 37 of the 515 businesses also carried unclaimed_listing: true, meaning nobody has claimed the Google profile, which is a useful prospect signal if you sell local marketing.

Step 3: Add emails where the website has one

Take the website from each row and look for a published contact address on the site, or hand the domain to an email-finding service you already use. Expect the email column to be shorter than the website column, which in our test was already 457 of 515.

Other ways to get the same data, from Google's own Places API to Outscraper and Apify, are priced side by side in the best Google Maps lead data APIs. If you would rather not write code at all, the free Google Maps lead scraper tool runs the same search in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

What information can I get about a local business from Google Maps?

The listing carries the business name, category, address, phone number, website, opening hours, rating, review count and coordinates, plus booking or ordering links when the business has them. It does not carry the owner's name or email address.

How do I find the owner or decision-maker's email for a local business?

Not from Google Maps, which never shows an email. Take the website from the Maps result and look for a contact address on the site, or pass the domain to an email-finding service. For small local businesses the listed phone often reaches the owner directly, which is why phone coverage matters more than email coverage on these lists.

How much does it cost to build a local lead list from Google Maps?

With Scavio, about 6 credits for one category in one city: six search pages that returned 99 to 109 unique businesses in our Phoenix test. That is about $0.012 on the Growth plan billed yearly, and the 50 free credits on signup cover eight such lists.

Is it legal to scrape Google Maps for business leads?

Business names, phone numbers and addresses on public listings are low-risk data, but collecting them runs outside Google's terms of service, and calling or emailing the businesses is governed by rules such as the TCPA in the US and GDPR in the EU. Store only what the campaign needs. This is not legal advice.
