6 Best Tripadvisor Reviews APIs in 2026: Why Scavio Reads Past the Official Review Cap

For Tripadvisor reviews and hotel data inside an app, a reputation dashboard or an AI agent, start with Scavio's Tripadvisor API. It pages through a location's reviews as far back as tripadvisor.com lists them, returns the five-bucket rating histogram and per-aspect scores with the first page of reviews in one call, and lists the hotels, restaurants or attractions in a city in Tripadvisor's own order with each hotel's nightly rate. Every call is 2 credits, which is $4 per 1,000 requests on the Growth plan billed yearly, and a key comes with no contract.

Tripadvisor does have an official API, but it is built to put a few licensed reviews on your site, not to read a review history. The legacy Content API "returns up to 5 of the most recent reviews for a specific location", and its keys were deprecated on August 31, 2026. Its replacement, Terra, draws reviews from "a fixed pool defined by your contract: either the N most recent reviews or every review published in the last M months", and its caching policy forbids storing the content.

We build Scavio, so read this with that bias in mind. Every Scavio number below comes from live calls we made on October 27, 2026. Every competitor detail was read off the vendor's own page or documentation that day, and where a detail was not published we say so. The screenshots are each vendor's own Tripadvisor page, captured the same day.

Tripadvisor's own API reads a pool, not the review history

Terra's language guide gives "the 25 most recent" as its example pool. We listed the hotels in Paris with one Scavio search call and compared each hotel's review count with that pool.

Review counts for the first 10 hotels in Tripadvisor's Paris hotel listing on October 27, 2026: together they have 27,977 reviews, and a pool of the 25 most recent per hotel holds 250 of them, 0.9%

The first 10 hotels in Tripadvisor's Paris listing, sponsored rows left out, carry 27,977 reviews between them. A 25-review pool per hotel holds 250, or 0.9%, and for Novotel Paris Les Halles, with 7,510 reviews, it is 0.3%. For Hôtel Malte - Astotel, which Tripadvisor ranks "#1 of 1,896 hotels in Paris" with 3,976 reviews, Scavio's reviews endpoint kept going to page 277: about 2,769 reviews on tripadvisor.com's review pages, back to January 2017, with page 278 returning a 404. If your product tracks a hotel's reputation over time, compares a season with last year's, or models what guests complain about, the pool is the wrong sample.

1. Scavio: every review page, scores and ranked hotels

Scavio Tripadvisor API page, captured October 27, 2026

Scavio's Tripadvisor API is 4 POST endpoints, each 2 credits. Measured on October 27:

  • Locations: "Hotel Malte Paris" resolved to location_id 228694 in geo 187147 in 0.9 s. Every other endpoint keys on those ids, so this call comes first when you hold a name.
  • Search: Paris hotels returned 34 rows in 4.5 s, 30 ranked and 4 flagged sponsored, each with rating, review count, a review snippet, the Travelers' Choice year and, on 23 of the 30 ranked rows, the nightly rate the listing shows. Restaurants and attractions work the same way.
  • Location: Hôtel Malte in 2.1 s: a 4.9 rating from 3,976 reviews, the histogram (3,662 excellent, 263 very good, 40 average, 6 poor, 5 terrible), six aspect scores from Rooms 4.7 to Location 4.9, the city ranking, 18 amenities, address, coordinates and website, plus the 10 newest reviews.
  • Reviews: page 2 came back in 4.5 s with title, full text, rating, trip date, trip type, reviewer details and the hotel's reply on all 10 reviews. Page 150 reached March 2023 and page 277, the last, January 2017.

What it does not do: at 2 credits a call it costs double Scavio's usual rate, a hotel page holds 10 reviews where SerpApi returns up to 20, and there are no rating or language filters. Its review pages covered about 2,769 of the 3,976 reviews in Tripadvisor's count. For a one-off archive of millions of reviews, DataForSEO's queued per-review pricing is cheaper. The benefit is one live call per page, the scores and the ranked listings behind the same key as Scavio's Booking.com, Google Hotels and Google Maps APIs, plus an MCP server for agents. How to get Tripadvisor reviews and hotel data walks through each call with captured responses.

2. DataForSEO: the cheapest reviews in bulk, on a queue

DataForSEO's Tripadvisor Reviews API is task-based: you post a task with a url_path or a keyword and location, then collect results by polling or a postback URL. A task returns 10 reviews by default and up to 4,490. Pricing is per block of 10 reviews: $0.00075 in the standard queue (up to 45 minutes, $75 per million reviews) or $0.0015 in the priority queue (up to 1 minute). Setting a language adds a charge per task. The minimum top-up is $50, and new accounts get a $1 trial credit. Choose it for large review archives when waiting for a queue is fine.

3. SerpApi: search, place and reviews engines

SerpApi has three Tripadvisor engines: Search, Place and Reviews. The reviews engine takes a place_id, returns 10 reviews by default and up to 20 a page, pages with offset, and filters by rating, month, type of visit and language. Its page notes that the translate and original_language parameters are discontinued. Pricing is per search: 250 free a month, $25 for 1,000, $75 for 5,000 and $150 for 15,000 ($10 per 1,000), billed monthly. At 20 reviews a search, Production works out to $0.50 per 1,000 reviews. Choose it if your team already uses SerpApi for Google.

4. Apify actor: scheduled review exports

Apify Tripadvisor Reviews Scraper actor page, captured October 27, 2026

maxcopell/tripadvisor-reviews, maintained by Apify, had 10,581 users and 915 monthly users on October 27. It takes place URLs and returns review text, rating, travel and published dates, reviewer details, the owner's response, helpful votes, images and language, priced from $0.90 per 1,000 reviews on pay-per-event. Actors run as jobs that write to a dataset, which suits scheduled exports and spreadsheets. For an app or agent that needs one hotel's latest reviews on demand, a per-call API is simpler.

5. Bright Data: review records by collector

Bright Data Tripadvisor Scraper API page, captured October 27, 2026

Bright Data's Tripadvisor Scraper API has hotel review, reviews and hotels collectors, with fields such as hotel name, overall rating, total reviews, review title and text, bubble rating, review date, date of stay, trip type and owner response. It costs $1.50 per 1,000 records pay-as-you-go, or $499 a month for 384,000 records with more at $1.30 per 1,000, and 5,000 free records a month with no card. Choose it when the deliverable is a large file of records rather than an answer inside a request.

6. SocialCrawl: cached search and reviews

SocialCrawl Tripadvisor API page, captured October 27, 2026

SocialCrawl's Tripadvisor page lists 2 active endpoints, search and reviews, at 1 credit per live call and 0 for a cache hit, with a depth parameter for review volume and no stated maximum. The page says the first request for a place can take about 15 to 45 seconds. Credits come in one-time packs that never expire: 100 free, then £15 for 2,500, £49 for 20,000 and £299 for 150,000 (prices shown in pounds). Choose it when you re-read the same places often enough for free cache hits to matter.

Tripadvisor's own Terra API is the licensed route. Its self-service Discover package is pay-as-you-go: the first 1,000 billable entities are free once per account, then $0.015 each, falling to $0.009 above 5,000 a month, where a reviews call counts as one entity. Discover allows 10,000 calls a day, and the review endpoint returns the contracted pool. Its master terms license display to your users and limited internal analysis of a property's reviews, rule out use with AI or machine learning beyond internal retrieval testing without a separate agreement, and the review implementation policy requires review text to load in a way search engines cannot crawl. If you need a Tripadvisor badge and a handful of reviews on your hotel's own site, that is what it is for.

Pick by the number you need

If your users act on how a hotel's reviews move, what guests complain about this season and where it ranks in its city, keeping that data current is the ongoing work, and it is what Scavio's Tripadvisor API handles. Watching 200 hotels with a daily location call (histogram, aspect scores, ranking and the 10 newest reviews) is 6,000 calls and 12,000 credits a month: $24 at the Growth-yearly rate of $2 per 1,000 credits. Backfilling those 200 hotels' review histories at, say, 150 pages each is 30,000 calls, or 60,000 credits and about $120, once. Through a 25-review pool, the backfill does not exist. Frequently asked questions

Does Tripadvisor have an API for reviews?

Yes. Tripadvisor's Terra platform replaced its legacy Content API, whose keys were deprecated on August 31, 2026. Terra's Location Reviews endpoint draws from a fixed pool set by your contract, either the N most recent reviews or the reviews from the last M months, and the legacy API returned up to 5 of the most recent. Its terms also forbid caching or storing the content. To read a location's full review history, use a third-party API such as Scavio's Tripadvisor API.

Is the Tripadvisor API free?

Not any more. The legacy Content API's 5,000-call free tier ended with that API. Terra's self-service Discover package gives the first 1,000 billable entities free once per account, then charges $0.015 per entity, falling to $0.009 above 5,000 a month. Scavio gives 50 free credits on signup, which is 25 Tripadvisor calls.

What is the cheapest way to get Tripadvisor reviews in bulk?

Per review, DataForSEO's standard queue: $0.075 per 1,000 reviews with up to 45 minutes' turnaround and a $50 minimum top-up. Apify's most-used reviews actor starts at $0.90 per 1,000 reviews and Bright Data at $1.50 per 1,000 records. Scavio returns 10 hotel reviews or 15 restaurant reviews per 2-credit call, about $0.40 or $0.27 per 1,000 reviews on the Growth plan billed yearly, with each page answered in seconds.

Can I get Tripadvisor hotel data through an API?

Yes. Scavio's search endpoint lists the hotels in a city in Tripadvisor's own order with rating, review count, Travelers' Choice year and the nightly rate the listing shows, and its location endpoint returns one hotel's rating histogram, aspect scores, ranking, amenities and address. SerpApi's Search and Place APIs and Bright Data's hotels collector also return hotel data.

How do I get a Tripadvisor API key?

For Tripadvisor's own API, sign up for Terra at tripadvisor.com/developers and generate a key in the Terra dashboard; legacy Content API keys stopped working after August 31, 2026. For a third-party API, sign up with the vendor: a Scavio key is issued at signup with no card and no agreement.
