Definition
Cloudflare Turnstile is Cloudflare's 2023-era CAPTCHA replacement that validates browsers through a mostly invisible JavaScript challenge, now the default bot mitigation on many sites and a frequent obstacle for research pipelines.
In Depth
Turnstile runs a series of browser fingerprinting and JS checks and returns a token that the origin site verifies server-side. From an automation perspective, Turnstile is strictly harder than classic Cloudflare challenges because it requires a real browser context with correct fingerprints, not a simple JS challenge solver. Managed search APIs like Scavio handle Turnstile internally so callers never see it.
Example Usage
The internal scraper stopped working when the target rolled out Cloudflare Turnstile; the team switched to Scavio rather than maintain a fingerprint farm.
